Extreme Sports Cafe's Mozambique Scuba Diving Retreat in Nacala is not just another beach resort. Based in the north of Mozambique, an area still largely unexplored by travelers and unspoiled by flashy tourist ventures.

The original Extreme Sports Cafe bush camp in Mogincual is currently still open as a self catering option for travelers wanting to use it as a base to explore the area however due to over development in the region we will be relocating the camp to a new location later in 2005.

Getting to us in Mozambique is not easy, but definitely worth the effort....

A 4 day trip by road from Johannesburg, or via flights from Jhb, Maputo, Blantyre and Dar es Salaam to Nampula which is 200km inland. Transfers can be arranged to Ilha and Nacala.

Flying to Northern Mozambique..

Extreme Sports Cafe Northern Mozambique is accessible via daily flights on LAM or Air Corridor from Maputo to Nampula, from where our minibus can be arranged to cover the 200km to Nacala on a new road. Same day connections from Jhb to Nampula occur twice a week.

Air Malawi also flies twice weekly from Blantyre and Lilongwe to Nampula.
LAM also flies from Jhb and Maputo direct to Pemba. Again, the minibus can be hired, or a trip on the Mecula bus will deliver you to Nacala town.
Nacala itself has the longest airstrip in Mozambique, so clients with their own planes can fly directly to us and we are waiting for scheduled flights to recommence here.

Driving to Nacala, Northern Mozambique...

From South Africa through Mozambique the trip should take about 4 days. The road through Maputo and up the southern coast is well known with plenty of accommodation options. The 1500km stretch north from Inhassora to Nacala is mostly good tarred road, the exception being patches on the 200km road between Mocuba and Alto Molocue which is graded, but can be inaccessible to non 4x4's during the rainy season.

The Zambesi crossing at Caia has recently been upgraded with the addition of an extra ferry, minimizing delays.

There is not yet much tourist development along this route, however there are decent places to stay in Beira, Gorongosa, Quelimane and Nampula. During the rainy season around December to March a 4x4 is strongly recommended, with minimum requirements being a diff lock.

From Zimbabwe the best option is out at Mutare, along to Inchope and then north towards Caia. In total about a 2.5 day trip.

The balance of the fees need to be paid one month prior to arrival at our school.
